Insanity of Motherhood

Motherhood, marriage, and midlife.

Photo Friday – A Different Approach

When it comes to getting the boys to do things at our house my husband and I use different methods.

Here is an example of what I mean.  Old Boy has a fish tank.  It’s his responsibility to make sure the tank is filled with enough dechlorinated water.  Recently I reminded Old Boy the tank needed more water and to take care of it.

Sadly, I didn’t get any results.  The water level remained low even after several verbal reminders.

My husband decided to take a different approach to the situation.

Day One

Day Two

Day Three

Well, what can I say?  My husband’s tactic worked.  Wonder what his plan will be to get Tall Boy to remember to feed the dog?

Mom of three boys, wife, educator, and all around nice gal in the middle of a midlife something. It's not a crisis, but it's something…

  1. You need to remind him to feed the dog? In our house the dogs just raid the pantry if they are hungry. 😉

  2. Clever! Very clever…….
I wonder if the same tactic would work with my husband… 😉

  3. husbands can be wise (sometimes) ying and yang, right?

  4. Love this, and I’m so going to try it with my boys and their gerbil and hermit crab cages! I think I’ll use the idea on my husband, too! 😉

  5. With five cats and three dogs at home, no one has a chance to forget to feed and water, after all, one of the critters will remind us. I use the note system to remind the human inhabitants of other things. However, that has recently given way to text messages. Works better, since I can resend and resend and resend until things get done.

    • Five cats and three dogs…yikes! We can barely handle one dog. When the animals pass away there will be no more. My husband and I plan live animal free, but grandkids are welcome.

      • We have a large back yard, filled with trees and a creek right behind us. Cats roam freely, bringing in the occasional snack to share with us (ew). The dogs hang out on the deck most of the time, if it isn’t too hot. We have a pet door, so it is pretty much up to them to get in and out. So no inside accidents. Two of our dogs are small. A mini-pin and a Welsh Heeler (very small cattle dog). But Budro makes up for it. He is half chocolate lab and half American Bull Terrier. Big, goofy, and very sweet. Terrifed of cats too.

We lived pet free for seven years while we were working our way around the world. It was ok, but I missed having a pet. I imagine we won’t have any more pets after these grow old and pass on. I will be getting too old to care for a dog properly, and my husband isn’t much into animals at all.
