Insanity of Motherhood

Motherhood, marriage, and midlife.

Last week, in the mist of my home buying drama, I did something dumb.  Suffering from low ‘house esteem’, I got my hair cut.  It was a foolish thing to do.  I have always struggled with my hair and when I am feeling low, the worst thing I can do is try a new style.

I went to my hairdresser.  I mentioned I wanted a shoulder length hair style, like Calista Flockhart’s new do. Instead I received a chin length style.  I don’t like it.  My declining jaw line is now more noticeable then ever.  The worst part is the bangs.  They were cut just below my eyebrows.  I look like Buster Brown.

Everyone who has seen my new ‘cut’ has heard me complain.  Finally, I decided I needed to stop complaining and do something.  I grabbed my family and headed to the Village Hat Shop, located near downtown San Diego.

The Village Hat Shop is a wonderful store filled with every type of hat imaginable.  It carries traditional, modern and costume style hats.

What makes this store unique is that it only carries hats.  No clothing or accessories, just hats.  Well, it does carry a few books about hats.

Searching for the right had proved to be more difficult than I imagined.  So many styles, colors to choose from.  Finally, after trying on several styles, I made my choice.

Pretty cool, huh?  You can hardly notice the little short bangs poking out.  My new hat has made me feel confident again.  It is a lot better than looking like, you know who.

  1. You have my deepest sympathy – there is nothing worse than too short bangs. Luckily, they grow fast . . . and you look very cute in your new hat!

  2. I also hate too short bangs…but they’ll be fine in 10 days. And I also love the hat! I look like an idiot in hats.
